Inspired by painters whose works are displayed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, John Harbison’s Six American Painters encapsulates the emotional and visual experience of engaging with art. Boston composer John Harbison will be present for this concert, part of the city-wide recognition of his eightieth birthday. In Alchemy, Jonathan Bailey Holland probes the way instruments combine or meld their respective timbres, yet remain distinct. Ludwig van Beethoven was only sixteen years old when he wrote the trio for piano, flute and bassoon, likely for a local aristocrat to perform with his family. And finally, we celebrate our twentieth anniversary season with a new work by Guggenheim Award-winner Laurie San Martin for all nine members of Radius Ensemble.
